Operation HERoes Updates

Hi there! I’m honored to serve as Flight Director for Honor Flight Kentucky’s all-female flight, Operation HERoes.

First things first, thank you for your service!  This flight will be an incredible opportunity to highlight your achievements, your service, and the path you’ve forged for each other across several generations. We remain incredibly grateful to the KDVA Trust Fund and UPS for their sponsorship of this flight.

As you may know, we had originally been scheduled for June 12th of this year. As has always been the case with any Honor Flight, safety is our first priority. We’ve had to postpone every flight so far since the battle began with this virus in early 2020. As we begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel, there are still many restrictions we face and unfortunately, we’re just not able to make this flight happen this June. At this point, we will be postponing the flight until spring of 2022. A specific date will be set closer to the end of the year.

Finally, we will continue to accept applications. As with all Honor Flights, priority is given based on age and terminal illness. I want to let you know I will continue to send updates likes this as I have information to share with you. I know you’re excited, just as I am, to finally be able to hold this special event. Rest assured that at least one positive of postponing the flight at this point is that it allows us plenty of time to plan what will actually be an even bigger event weekend!

Please feel free to reach out if you have a specific question but I do ask that you have patience with my response time. This is a pure volunteer position for me. I do have a fulltime job and am a mom, but I will get back to you just as soon as I can. You can reach me at ashley.bruggeman@honorflightky.org.

I have to tell you, it’s been such a blessing to review your applications and read the stories from your service, some of them moving me to tears. Some of them making me laugh. It’s an honor to work on this special project and I can’t wait for the day when I get to greet you at the airport! Until then, stay warm and stay healthy. I’ll be in touch.

All my best,

Ashley
