When REAL ID enforcement goes into effect October 1, 2020, Kentucky driver’s licenses without a black star cannot be used at airport security checkpoints for U.S. commercial air travel. Other federally approved documents, like a valid passport or passport card, are accepted for U.S. air travel.

This means if you or a loved one has applied or would like to go on an upcoming Honor Flight and you are placed on a manifest for a flight after October 1, you must have either a REAL ID, or a valid U.S. passport or other federally approved ID.  Your KY REAL ID will look like the sample below

To save time (it takes on average a couple weeks to receive your REAL ID in the mail after your application is approved) and to avoid repeat trips when applying, potential Honor Flight passengers are URGED TO PREPARE NOW. Take the IDocument quiz (make sure to select the Voluntary Travel ID Credential  option) or review the valid proof document checklist at www.drive.ky.gov to learn what required documents you need to gather or update before applying.

All Kentucky residents can apply at Kentucky Transportation Bldg, 200 Mero Street, Frankfort (only debit and credit cards accepted).

Pulaski County residents have an option to apply in Somerset, while Woodford County residents are able to apply at their Circuit Court Clerk office. Please go to https://drive.ky.gov/confidentKY/Pages/Schedule.aspx
